Whistles Neighbourhood: Central London

We’re giving you the rundown of the best spots to wine, dine, hangout and recharge in central London.

Visit our flagship Whistles St Christopher’s Place store at 12-14 St Christopher’s Place, Marylebone, London W1U 1NH.

Hubbard & Bell

Occupying the lobby of the stylish Hoxton Hotel, the Soho House Group’s restaurant Hubbard & Bell is not only a place to eat and drink, but to recharge batteries, work and network too. The Brooklyn-inspired restaurant, drinking den and breakout work area is a lively social co-op of urban travellers and creatives alike. The all-day restaurant serves hearty portions of grilled meats and seafood in an array of ingredients and flavours, while the lounge offers an extensive list of refreshing cocktails. After a lengthy email catch up, shuffle over to neighbouring Holborn Grind for a quick espresso and a chocolate and pistachio croissant before you head out.

Chiltern Firehouse

Occupying the Grade II listed building of the former Marylebone Fire Station, the iconic Chiltern Firehouse is worth the waiting list. In a cosy New York-style brasserie setting – note the checkered tile flooring and high ceilings with low hanging lamps – the food specialises in ingredient-focused cooking with an always changing menu of reimagined classics and bold new flavours. Whether you plan to go for a weekend brunch or an evening dinner, unwinding with a cocktail and friends, the Chiltern Firehouse is the place to be.

Monmouth coffee

If raw juices aren’t something you gravitate towards and you’d rather a strong roasted coffee to wake you up, then add Monmouth Coffee to your morning routine. Specialising in single origin coffee beans, their espresso shots and filter coffees are not to be overlooked. On a quieter day, the baristas will share their enthusiasm and expertise with anyone who shows an interest, perfect for anyone wanting to brush up on their coffee-making skills. And so you’re never without the rich taste of Monmouth Coffee, they also sell their own coffee beans for you to brew at home.

Berners Tavern

Conveniently situated in the London Edition in the heart of Fitzrovia, the contemporary British menu of Berners Tavern is far from a gastropub. Using the best produce in the British Isles, the simple yet elegant menu features slow-cooked Herdwick lamb shoulder to share and carefully selected grass-fed Scottish steak from only the most conscientious farmers, all to be feasted on while champagne is poured from a serving cart. Opulent chandeliers cast a subtle golden glow onto the marbled flooring, while high ceiling walls are covered with meticulously hung fine art. This is where old Hollywood meets traditional Britain at its finest.

Press

Add some much-needed nutritional TLC to your day with PRESS juice bar. Crafted from cold-pressed, unpasteurised juice and high quality health foods, PRESS takeaway juices and health shakes will help you combat even the busiest of days. We recommend the fruity Orchard juices for a quick pick-me-up and the Protein Warrior shake that will help maintain high energy levels.

Petersham Nurseries

Newly opened in the centre of Covent Garden, Petersham Nurseries brings nature and elegance together to create a unique lifestyle destination. Sunlight pours through Victorian atriums of the in-house florist, where wild and colourful floral arrangements are created from seasonal British-grown flowers, while the delicatessen brings the spirit of a traditional Italian grocery store to London. Over in their lifestyle store expect handpicked collections of homeware, furniture and gifts including hand crafted pieces and exquisite antiques. Early 2018 anticipates the arrival of their two new restaurants La Goccia, a vibrant menu of tempting sharing plates, and The Petersham, an elegant, à la carte restaurant with a refined and individual style.

Mildreds

International attendees of London Fashion Week frequently mention they never miss an opportunity to dine at Mildreds. With a lively and informal environment, the no-booking policy restaurant always attracts a crowd for their vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu. Our favourite dishes include the Sri Lankan sweet potato and green bean curry with roasted lime cashews, and the southern deep-fried buttermilk and polenta mock-chicken. Delicious.
