6 Ways To Give Back This Christmas

Christmas brings with it a period of indulgence, social events and festive activities. However, not everyone is as fortunate as us and for many, December can be a challenging time of year. With hopes of encouraging you to step away from your usual festive traditions and consider helping others, we’ve rounded up some ideas and initiatives that could make a difference this Christmas.

1. Donate a Christmas dinner to the homeless

For homeless people, Christmas can be an incredibly lonely time. Centrepoint – a charity dedicated to supporting young, homeless people – offer a service where you can donate just £10 to provide someone with a hot meal on Christmas Day.

2. Shop charitably and responsibly

This year, why not buy your wrapping paper and cards from charity shops? Macmillan, Oxfam and Save the Children stock Christmas offerings with profits that will go towards their causes. Alternatively, you could reuse wrapping paper or materials you already have to reduce your carbon footprint and save on spending.

3. Purchase a handcrafted ceramic snowflake to support The Trussell Trust

This year for our Christmas window display, we collaborated with Studio Peover; a contemporary ceramics brand based in ‘The Potteries’ Stoke-on-Trent. Following our collaboration with Goldfinger Factory last year, we wanted to offer decorations that can be enjoyed in-store and then at home this season – and ultimately we wanted to prevent items ending up in landfill.

These handcrafted snowflakes are on sale for £20 each and all proceeds go to the Trussell Trust – a charity that supports the UK’s food banks and provides emergency supplies to those in need. Like all of Studio Peover’s works, the snowflakes are designed to be viewed, loved and to bring joy, both as a limited edition creation and a piece of art.

4. Donate a gift to a child in need

For thousands of children across the UK, Christmas isn’t a happy time and their homes aren’t always safe. The Children’s Society are dedicated to providing gifts to those less fortunate than ourselves, from vouchers to arts and crafts supplies. Their curated list offers a range of gift options that can be donated to children across London and Birmingham.

5. Donate a warm coat

One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that works to provide a free, warm coat to people in need. Coats are distributed in the communities where they are collected, to children and adults in need, without charge, discrimination or obligation.

6. Host a crafternoon

Mental health charity Mind have come up with a way for you to raise money for charity by encouraging ‘crafternoons’, where you can spend the afternoon making and creating with friends or colleagues. Head to their website to download your full Crafternoon pack full of ideas, patterns, supplies and tips.
